Ford Ecosport Overview

The Ford EcoSport has a youthful air about it and there’s a sporty vibe to the cabin as well. It’s particularly nice to see how solidly everything feels put together. However, drivers don’t get the best of views out and the thick A-pillars can be bothersome at crossroads. At the rear, comfort is fine but space is down on rivals – and not everyone will be a fan of the EcoSport’s side-opening tailgate.

The Ford EcoSport’s 123hp, 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine is refined, peppy and likeable. While the standard fit 5-speed manual gearbox isn’t the slickest, the torque converter auto is smooth. Buyers looking for a sportier experience will like the EcoSport S which is powered by the high-tech 125hp, 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbo-petrol engine. As for the diesel, Ford’s 100hp, 1.5-litre engine works really well on the EcoSport. It’s not the quietest engine but the linear power delivery makes it an easy one to live with. The EcoSport distinguishes itself among compact SUVs for its keen handling. The suspension is absorbent too but variants with larger wheels do ride with a degree of firmness.

Ford Ecosport Exterior & Style

Ford EcoSport has a unique design that highlights its high ground clearance. The front portion of the vehicle consists of a single unit having a prominent hexagonal grille flanked by horizontal slats. The Ford logo at the centre of grill looks commanding. The makers have used a lot of chrome plating to lend an exquisite look to the fascia. The highlights of the frontal fascia are its projector headlights with Daytime Running Lamps and fog lamps. The Ford EcoSport lower-end models drive on 15-inch alloy wheels whereas the top-end versions have 17-inch wheels to deliver a higher Ford EcoSport ground clearance.

The Ford EcoSport specifications are 3998mm X 1765mm X 1647mm thereby ensuring that it is a tall vehicle. The ground clearance for the lower end Ford EcoSport cars is 200mm, high enough for all speed breakers and bumps. The wheelbase of 2519mm lends adequate balance as it provides the right equilibrium to balance the front and back portions of the car.

Ford Ecosport Interior & Space

Now, this is where the EcoSport felt dated and Ford has addressed this issue. The dashboard layout is entirely new and so are the steering wheel, aircon vents and the instrument console with the multi-information display. The centre console and the door pads get orange finishing that breathes freshness into the cabin. There is an 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on offer. The new touchscreen is super responsive and also feels very smooth to use. The steering wheel houses controls for the infotainment system and cruise control etc. The quality of materials used inside the cabin is just impeccable.

The EcoSport gets all-new seats at the front and these are far more comfortable and supportive. The cushioning has been made softer too. At the rear, space is still limited and it is a difficult task to make 3 people sit. Knee room is less while head room is good and shoulder space is good enough too if only two passengers are sitting. However, the rear seat is still very comfortable and provides good support to the body.

Ford Ecosport Engine & Gearbox

The biggest change is the all-new 1.5-litre Dragon engine. This is a three-cylinder engine that churns about 121bhp of power, 150Nm of torque and comes with a six-speed automatic transmission. A regular automatic replaces the DCT unit. The diesel engine is unchanged.

The 1.5-litre Dragon petrol engine on the Ford Ecosport 2018 is a good new engine. This new engine is light weight as it has an aluminium block which is light in weight. Ford Ecosport Ride & Handling

The Ford EcoSport has always had a fun-to-drive nature and the new car doesn’t miss out on the fun factor. The steering continues to feel light enough at city speeds while it weighs up nicely on the highways. It also offers a good amount of feedback. The suspension has been softened a bit which makes the ride a lot more better, though it is still a bit on the stiffer side. The new low-profile tyres on the top variants also add to the stiff ride while lower variants with higher profile tyres may make the ride feel a bit more softer. Grip from the new tyres is very good and braking performance on the EcoSport is also well-suited to the weight and size of the car. Apply car loan for Ford Ecosport .
